[ oh-nahy-rik ]

of, relating to, or characteristic of dreams1

originFirst recorded in 1855–60; from Greek óneir(os) “dream” + -ic

ONEIRIC SPACE reflects on how nightly dreams intertwine with waking life at an individual and collective level. Through conversations, publishing experiments, and gatherings, the project looks to dreams as a site for generative patterns of being, feeling, and imagining together.

In 2019, ONEIRIC SPACE was launched as an online interview publication by Charmaine Li in collaboration with Effie Efthymiadi and Studio Push. The intention was to spark dialogue about the multiplicity of perspectives and approaches to engaging with dreams. Since then, the project has evolved into an ongoing act of “gathering” and sharing research in various forms — through the website, newsletter, artist’s book, gatherings for collective dream reflection, and Are.na. Each one opens up a different register to encounter the material.

Gatherings have been held at ACUD Galerie, kwia, Callie’s, Trust, Haus am Lützowplatz, Künstlerdorf Schöppingen, Museum of Architecture and Design Ljubjlana, Insola, and Burg Hülshoff - Center for Literature.

ONEIRIC SPACE’s research involves reflecting on personal and submitted dream accounts, having dialogue with dreamers across disciplines, reading books, examining archival materials, learning from collaborations, and co-hosting gatherings.

ONEIRIC SPACE’s activities are slow and sporadic.

Deep gratitude to friends, conversational partners & collaborators that shape and inform the project
