ONEIRIC SPACE is an independent research project that explores the porous boundaries between nightly dreams and waking life. Through informal learning, exchange with practitioners, and gatherings, it creates space for personal and communal reflection on the multifaceted, mysterious nature of dreams. ONEIRIC SPACE is based on the idea that dreams can be a source of illumination and nourishment for individuals and communities.

In 2019, ONEIRIC SPACE first took form as an online interview publication, launched by Charmaine Li in collaboration with Effie Efthymiadi. Influenced by our personal experiences with dreams shaping our daily lives, the project began as a way to learn and spark dialogue on the multiplicity of approaches to engaging with these nightly phenomena.

After years of publishing conversations with artists and researchers through a website and newsletter, ONEIRIC SPACE started assembling gatherings where attendees could slow down and attend to dream memories in a group setting. Since then, our gatherings for collective dream reflection have been held at ACUD Galerie, kwia, Callie’s, Trust, Haus am Lützowplatz, Museum of Architecture and Design Ljubljana, Künstlerdorf Schöppingen, Insola, and Burg Hülshoff - Center for Literature.

ONEIRIC SPACE’s research stems from personal and submitted dream accounts, dialogue with dreamers across disciplines, books, archival materials, collaborations, and gatherings. Our activities are slow and sporadic.

Deep gratitude to friends, conversational partners & collaborators that shape and inform the project
