ONEIRIC SPACE reflects on the porous boundaries between nightly dreams and waking life at an individual and collective level. Through research, publishing experiments, and gatherings, the project examines dreams as a site for gesturing towards new patterns of being, feeling, and imagining together.

In 2019, ONEIRIC SPACE was launched as an online interview publication by Charmaine Li in collaboration with Effie Efthymiadi and Studio Push. The intention was to spark dialogue about the multiplicity of perspectives and approaches to engaging with dreams. Since then, the project has evolved into an ongoing act of “gathering” in the way that designer and educator Mindy Seu describes in this article, which our friend Meg Miller shared with us.

Currently, ONEIRIC SPACE’s research is compiled through conversations, personal dream journals, books, archival materials, collaborations, events, and participatory readings. Findings are shared through a newsletter series, gatherings, a print publication, and a (small) interview archive.

After years of publishing conversations with artists, researchers, and practitioners through the website and newsletter, ONEIRIC SPACE started developing and assembling gatherings for collective dream reflection. These gatherings have been held at ACUD Galerie, kwia, Callie’s, Trust, Haus am Lützowplatz, Künstlerdorf Schöppingen, Museum of Architecture and Design Ljubjlana, Insola, and Burg Hülshoff - Center for Literature.

ONEIRIC SPACE’s activities are slow and sporadic.

Deep gratitude to friends, conversational partners & collaborators that shape and inform the project
