[ oh-nahy-rik ]

of, relating to, or characteristic of dreams1

originFirst recorded in 1855–60; from Greek óneir(os) “dream” + -ic

ONEIRIC SPACE focuses on the relationship between nightly dreams and waking life both at the individual and collective level. Through conversations, publishing experiments, collaborations, and gatherings, the project cultivates spaces — online and irl — to reflect on the multifaceted and mysterious nature of dreams.

In 2019, ONEIRIC SPACE was launched as an online interview publication by Charmaine Li in collaboration with Effie Efthymiadi. Rooted in our personal experiences of dreams, the intention was to spark dialogue about the multiplicity of perspectives and approaches to engaging with dreams. Since then, the project has evolved into an ongoing act of “gathering” and sharing research in various forms — through the website, newsletter, artist’s book, gatherings for collective dream reflection, and Are.na. Each one opens up a different register to encounter the material.

Gatherings have been held at ACUD Galerie, kwia, Callie’s, Trust, Haus am Lützowplatz, Museum of Architecture and Design Ljubljana, Künstlerdorf Schöppingen, Insola, and Burg Hülshoff - Center for Literature.

ONEIRIC SPACE’s research involves reflecting on personal and submitted dream accounts, dialogue with dreamers across disciplines, books, archival materials, collaborations, and gatherings. Our activities are slow and sporadic.

Deep gratitude to friends, conversational partners & collaborators that shape and inform the project
